Name and surname: Luka Rep
Title: PUT-IN DISCO
Year: 2022
Tehnique: Tehnika mešanih medijev / Mix Media
Dimensions: 20x20 cm
I drew inspiration for my put-in disco sculpture from one of the most current topics at the moment, the war between Russia and Ukraine. The idea for my mix media project was a disco ball made of bullet shells and glitters. In this sculpture, I wanted to combine two opposing poles. Why disco ball?. A disco is a place that triggers some pleasant positive feelings in us, where people like to gather, dance and relax, etc. Looking at the bullet shells, we immediately get an association with death, war, suffering. However, when the bullet shells are presented as part of a disco ball, they lose their original purpose and shine in a completely different light. The sphere forms a kind of monument to all the civilian victims that are the result of war and reminds us of its banality. It is a kind of ready made. The work represents an aesthetic provocation. I also played with the title of the work, which has a double meaning. I took my example from the work of Marcel Duchamp-Fontan.
